Our Mission

Fuego means fire. The fire that burns away the illusion of separateness revealing the essence of being. This essential nature of being is yoga or oneness.

The practice of yoga is entirely non-religious but undeniably spiritual. Spiritual in the most simple and literal sense as this is a practice of meditation and presence with the emphasis on breath. The word spiritual derives from the latin root “spiritus” or breath.

Just as we all learn to sit, crawl, stand, walk and run as we grow, so has this practice evolved over the course of time. What we practice in the modern era is often referred to as vinyasa yoga. Vinyasa means “to place in a specific order.” In other words, what we are practicing now is a moving meditation, allowing breath to initiate the movement and inform the truth of each shape or asana.

At Fuego, we offer a variety of hot, heated and non-heated vinyasa yoga classes. We also offer yin yoga, kid’s yoga and some movement classes of different varieties. In addition, we have regular workshops. These workshops range from asana, sound healing, breath work, reiki, trauma healing and dharma discussions.

Our emphasis is love, openness and community. We respect every individual who enters our space. Yoga meets you where you are, as you are with complete acceptance. We do not believe there is a “right” way to practice yoga. We believe there are simply many ways to practice and experience each and every breath, movement and shape.

The name and mission of our studio is inspired by Sophiah, the daughter of our founder, Amy Covington. Sophiah encourages us to “be a light that shines so bright that it doesn’t seem to be one of this word.” This is yoga. This is Fuego.

We welcome you to join us. Let’s burn. Let’s breathe. Together. Now.

~Namaste~
